Dietitian and Nutrition Counselling
At Scarborough Academic Family Health Team, we have 2 Registered Dietitians that have a wealth of knowledge, on food and our health. They use evidenced based information to provide medical nutrition therapy to promote better health, disease prevention, and how to manage many health conditions. You are welcome to request an appointment to see one of our dietitians at any time with a referral from your health professional (your family doctor, nurse practitioner or allied health professional).
Services provided include but are not limited to:
Heart Health management (high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart attack, etc).
Chronic Disease management (kidney, prediabetes, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, liver, etc).
Nutrition across the lifespan (from pre/postnatal care, childhood eating challenges to older adult care).
Gastrointestinal problems (irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, celiac disease, and food intolerances, etc).
Nutrition Deficiencies (Wilson’s disease, iron deficiency anemia, etc).
Weight management, general healthy eating, emotional eating, eating on a budget, vegetarianism and more.
What does a visit with a dietitian involve?
In the first appointment, the dietitian will get to know you and your eating routine and will provide some tips for improving your diet and lifestyle.
All recommendations are suggestions and give you an opportunity to have an outsider examine your diet and see if there are places to improve- everyone can always improve something!
How to make an appointment to see a registered dietitian?
You may request a dietitian appointment by speaking to your family doctor or allied health professionals. All visits are covered by the Ontario Ministry of Health for patients of the Scarborough Academy Family Health Team.
